SUMMIT COUNTY — A malfunctioning back tire on a motorcycle resulted in an accident Saturday that injured the male driver but seriously injured a female passenger.

Utah Highway Patrol trooper Randall Akers said the crash occurred at 11:26 a.m. when a group of motorcyclists were traveling on state Route 65 from Henefer.

Witnesses said they saw the motorcycle's back tire begin to slip out as the cycle was turning, which caused it to fishtail and go off the road. When the man tried to bring the vehicle back up onto the road, it flipped and the riders were thrown off, Akers said.

Both individuals were wearing helmets and were taken to University Hospital.
