Curtis Michael Allgier, 27, is scheduled to have an initial court appearance today at 9 a.m. He has been charged with aggravated murder, which could carry the death penalty if he is convicted.

He also is charged with aggravated escape, aggravated robbery and three counts of attempted aggravated criminal homicide, which are all first-degree felonies. He also is charged with second-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

Prosecutors say the charges stem from a June 25 incident in which they say Allgier killed prison guard Stephen Anderson during a medical visit to a university clinic, then hijacked a car, led police on a wild chase and ended up at an Arby's restaurant, where Allgier is accused of trying to kill a police officer and two civilians. Allgier is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on no bail.
