PROVO Matthew C. Ivers, a Provo native and graduate of Utah State University, is learning about life on Capitol Hill this summer.
Ivers is serving a semester internship in the Washington, D.C., office of Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.
Ivers, a 26-year-old student of political science, is assigned to aid Hatch on the judiciary committee. Following his internship, Ivers plans to seek a master's of public administration.
Each semester, Hatch selects interns from Utah from dozens of students who apply for the few openings in the office.
Schools recommend a group of applicants to the internship program based on their grade-point average, extracurricular activities and other accomplishments. Hatch then makes the final cut.
