Man is arrested in rape of Springville girl, 14

PROVO — A family friend is in jail after a 14-year-old girl reported the man raped her.

An 18-year-old man was visiting the home of the Springville family and asked the young girl if she wanted to have sex, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court. The girl refused but the man pushed her into a bedroom and raped her, according to the affidavit.

"He claims it was consensual, she said it was rape," said Springville Police Lt. Dave Caron. "At the age of 14, it doesn't matter."

The man was arrested Sunday afternoon and booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of rape and is being held on $25,000 bail.
