In observance of Safety in the Home and Community Week, the National Emergency Number Association, in partnership with Qwest Communications, will provide 500 free corded land-line phones to area residents on a first-come, first-served basis Saturday, June 30, 1 p.m. at Fashion Place, 6191 S. State, Murray.

As 911 call frequency rises with the temperature, the Connect for Safety campaign educates consumers on the potentially life-saving benefits of having a corded landline phone in the home for its reliability and accurate emergency response information when dialing 911. Emergency services experts urge consumers to keep at least one corded phone with land-line service in their homes in case of an emergency to ensure immediate location identification.
