People come and go in life, and especially in the topsy-turvy world of radio. Still, it is amazing how just the simple mention of a name from the past can bring back a flood of nostalgic memories.

As such, here's the first part of a listing of some of the former personalities who used to be on the air at various Salt Lake-area radio stations decades ago.

These aren't all-inclusive lists but rather a sampling of the era. Credit goes to Joey Santarelli of Roy for his extensive research on these names.

RADIO HAPPENINGS: On its Web site, KFNZ ("K-FAN," AM-1320) is counting down a "they're-coming" change that begins Monday at 6 a.m. Could this be the premiere of a new morning sports show that used to be on AM-1280? Stay tuned.

Rick Shane is the KKAT (FM-107.5) DJ each weekday evening from 7 to midnight. He also does a feature at 8 p.m.: "80's at 8." Shane is also still working weekends on sister station KBEE (FM-98.7), Saturdays, 6 p.m.-midnight, and Sundays, 7 a.m.-noon. He's also the oval-track announcer at Rocky Mountain Raceways again this year, for the 11th season.

Also, since Shane started doing radio in August 1987 at KKAT "Kat Country 102 FM" on 400 S. and 455 East as the producer for Jay Bird, this marks his 20th year in Utah radio.

KOSY held an unusual contest last week, a "Big Daddy Musical Chairs" event for Father's Day.
