The American West Heritage Center will present four heritage-based bus tours this summer. Made possible by a grant from the Utah Humanities Council, the tours will provide an in-depth look at parts of Cache Valley's unique history.

Tours begin at 10 a.m. at the Welcome Center and will return by 2 p.m. Participants are invited to bring a sack lunch, if desired. The tours are free (435-245-6050).

June 23: Northern Utah Historic Barn Tour. Barns in Northern Utah are reminders of an agricultural tradition that peaked in the mid-1900s. The tour, led by folklorist Lisa Duskin-Goede, includes oral histories of barn owners and a slide presentation.

July 7: Cache Valley Dairy Land Tour. See first-hand the legacy of early Cache Valley dairy farmers and the crucial role dairy plays in the valley. The tour is led by Robert Parson, archivist at Utah State University's Department of Special Collections and Archives.

July 28: Artists in Residence — a Studio Tour of Cache Valley Artists. The tour highlights seven local artists, and provides opportunities to go behind the scenes to see the artists at work. It will be led by Kandace Steadman, executive director of the Museum of Utah Art and History.

Aug. 11: The Shoshone and the Bear River Valley. A lesser-known story of Cache Valley is that of its early inhabitants, the Shoshone Indians. The tour will be led by Patty Timbimboo-Madsen, cultural manager for the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation.
