• Keep campsites clear of garbage and food scraps.

• Keep garbage, food scraps and fat drippings in an air-tight container and pack it out when you leave.

• Keep all cooking grills and utensils in camping area clean.

• Store food and coolers in the trunk of your car, in a bear-proof container or suspended at least 12 feet high between two trees.

• Cook away from your tent or sleeping area.

• Change your clothing after preparing food or cleaning fish. Do not sleep in soiled clothing.

• Do not set up hummingbird or seed feeders.

What to do if you see a bear:

• Do nothing. Bears will usually move on if left alone.

• If the bear is close, find an escape route and back away slowly.

• If there is no escape route, scream and shout to try to scare it off.

• If it attacks, be aggressive and fight back.
