LEHI The Thanksgiving Point Plein Air Art Festival is a celebration of the beauty of the Thanksgiving Point Gardens as seen through the eyes of 75 of Utah's finest painters and sculptors.
The artists will be working "en plein air" which is French for "in the open air," implying that each artist will be responding to the immediacy of the moment.
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe and interact with the artists as they create beautiful fine art as well as have the opportunity to purchase the pieces.
The style became popular in the 1870s when paint became available in tubes. Prior to that time, paint had to be ground and mixed by hand which made it difficult to work outside a studio or indoor area.
Today, plein air festivals are held throughout the world.
The festival is included in the regular gardens admission price.
Pieces finished during the festival will be sold during the silent auction at the Waterfall Amphitheatre from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 23.
