Jazz to work out 4 draft prospects
Afflalo and Tucker both were named first-team All-Americans by the Associated Press this past season, along with Texas A&M's Acie Law IV and likely top-two picks Greg Oden of Ohio State and Kevin Durant of Texas.
Each is a potential first-round pick in the June 28 draft, though some Internet mock drafts have one or both going late in the opening round while others predict both Afflalo and Tucker will be selected early in the second round.
The two All-Americans will be joined for this morning's audition by Fresno State shooting guard Quinton Hosley, a possible second-rounder, and Temple shooting guard Dustin Salisbery.
The Jazz own the draft's No. 25 overall selection in the first round, plus the No. 55 overall pick in the second round.
FRYER RETIRES: According to a report in Sunday's New York Post, longtime referee and BYU product Bernie Fryer retired after working Game 3 of the recently concluded NBA finals.
SLOAN INSPIRES: Larry Brown apparently is itching to coach yet again in the NBA, and Jazz coach Jerry Sloan evidently is one reason why.
"There is something to be said for giving young guys a chance and not recycling coaches all the time," Brown recently told the Sacramento Bee, "but I was watching the playoffs and seeing (Gregg Popovich), Jerry Sloan and Don Nelson, what a great job the old guys were doing, and I see Rick (Adelman) getting back. I look at those guys and think that's what I should be doing."
RUMOR MILL: Asked about the Jazz and starting small forward Andrei Kirilenko during a recent online chat, ESPN.com NBA writer Chad Ford dropped this little nugget: "I heard they almost moved Kirilenko at the trade deadline to the Raptors for Mo Peterson and change."
