900 lose power during repairs

With the mercury pushing the 100-degree mark, Saturday certainly wasn't the best time to have a power outage.

But Rocky Mountain Power pulled the plug on 900 South Jordan residents Saturday morning to work on some needed repairs at a local substation.

The outage was planned for some time, and residents were given a heads up a few days in advance, Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Oler said. "It happened to be today when the weather decided to do what it did," Oler said.

The power was out from about 7:30 to 11 a.m., Oler said. It could have been worse — the outage had been scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to permit crews to repair a device that allows electricity to go from the substation to homes.

"We knew that with increased demand, as temperatures got hotter, and we got into the summer, which is our peak demand ... we knew that had to be fixed now in order to handle the increased demand on that circuit," Oler said.
