PROVO — One night the goals seemingly came easy and then the next, not so easy.

After dominating first-place Tacoma on Friday night, BYU had a tougher time against last-place Abbotsford Saturday night. The Cougars, however, still managed a 2-1 come-from-behind win.

"We didn't play our best, but they're a really good team," said BYU coach Chris Watkins. "I'm surprised at their record. They're a solid team."

With the game tied at 1-1, Richie Bindrup kicked what ultimately was the game winner for the Cougars in the extra time just before the half. The Rangers were all packed inside the box defensively, which allowed Bindrup to have a wide open shot from outside to the top left corner of the box. He kicked a laser over the keeper but just underneath the top post and into the net for the 2-1 lead.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the second half, but neither could finish. Abbotsford had opportunities in the 66th and 67th minutes that could have easily tied the game, but it came away with nothing.

The Rangers scored first in the

16th minute. Spencer Schmidt was able to dribble deep into the box, through traffic, and kick it past the keeper into the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Cougars drew even at 1-1 in the 25th minute. David Clark was fouled in the box as he dribbled toward the goal. Brock Trejo took the penalty kick and pounded it past the keeper into the left side of the goal.

"(Friday) we caught them defensively where they weren't tracking us as we ran across their back," said Watkins. "Tonight they did a much better job."

The win improves the Cougars' record to 6-1-1, while Abbotsford drops to 1-4-3.

"The scoreboard maybe doesn't sound as good as some games," said Watkins. "But I love a win over Abbotsford. They're a good team."

The Cougars head to Washington next week where they play games on consecutive nights against Yakima before coming home for a July 4th game against instate rival Ogden.
