Kevin Nay not only helped lead Gunnison to a state title, he also led the team and state with 12 wins on the mound. He was the best overall player on the best team in the classification.

"Kevin has been getting it done for us all year," said Bulldogs coach Jared Anderson. "He has all the intangibles that make a great baseball player. He isn't a real vocal leader for us, but his example of how to play is a big reason why we have had a great year."

The only underclassman among the MVPs, the junior was the unquestioned leader for the state champs. He picked up three wins in the state tournament, including two on the last three days and the title game. He hit from the No. 3 spot in the lineup and was second on the team in RBIs and hitting with a .472 average.

"He did a great job for us of getting some big hits," added Anderson. "It seemed like any time we needed a big play, he came through for us."

Nay's performance was consistent all season, but he especially shined in the playoffs when it was on the line the most. He got the two wins at UVSC and picked up the team's only RBI in the title game against Richfield.

"I just tried to to whatever was needed," he said. "I don't know if that makes me the MVP or what, but this has been the most fun playing baseball I have ever had. I love this team and all the guys on it, and if I am the MVP, it is only because of what all the other guys on the team have done."
