Six new police officers were sworn in Tuesday, the final step in establishing Saratoga Springs' 15-officer police department that will officially take over from the Utah County Sheriff's Office on July 1.
The department will spend $2.1 million during its first year of operations, said Police Chief Gary Hicken. That includes start up spending for police cars, uniforms, guns, computers and all other necessary equipment.
The department will have 11 vehicles, including six marked cars and a volunteer car.
The new officers will greet residents Saturday during a $2 per plate pancake breakfast from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the park across from Harvest Elementary School at 2105 N. Providence Drive.
