Sub-for-Santa applicants, sponsors sought in Provo
Sub-for-Santa is now taking calls from applicants and sponsors.
To be considered for Sub-for-Santa, a family must have at least one child between the ages of 18 months and 14 years of age. Other eligibility factors will also be considered such as income, expenses, individual disabilities and other unusual circumstances.Parents can apply for Sub-for-Santa assistance during one of the Saturday Make-it-Take-it workshops to be held Nov. 7, 14 and 21 and Dec. 5 and 12.
"These workshops are a unique part of the Sub-for-Santa program that are designed to assist parents in making low-cost gifts for their children and, most importantly, teach skills of budgeting and financial planning," said Jenn Kilstrom, Sub-for-Santa coordinator. "The underlying concept is to help families help themselves."
Applicants will receive an applicant status letter within 10 business days after attending one of the workshops and will then receive a call from their sponsor sometime before Dec. 18. Those interested in applying for Sub-for-Santa assistance may call 375-2999 weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The United Way Volunteer Center is looking for individuals and groups willing to sponsor less-fortunate families this Christmas season through the Sub-for-Santa program. Other volunteer opportunities are available for those unable to sponsor a family who want to help.
To volunteer, call 375-1220 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. For other volunteer opportunities, call the United Way Volunteer Center at 374-8108.
