The sentencing of convicted child sex abuser Arvid Oakley was delayed Wednesday to allow the county attorney's office more time to bring in out-of-state witnesses.

County Attorney Kay Bryson said since the Department of Corrections isn't finished with its evaluation of Oakley, his office didn't want to arrange for plane tickets to bring in those witnesses and then have to recall them.Oakley was convicted in September of sexually abusing a 4-year-old neighbor girl who attended his free day care, Superkids of America in Springville, two years ago.

Prosecutors accused Oakley of setting up his day care as a ruse to abuse young girls.

Fourth District Judge Anthony Schofield granted the prosecution's motion to delay the sentencing, especially since the conviction carries a minimum mandatory sentence. Oakley could be sentenced to life in prison for the first-degree felony count.

Bryson expects at least 10 people, including victims and their families, to testify at the sentencing, which was rescheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 10.
