Although Christmas is still many weeks away and merchants are just getting geared up for the holiday rush, many families in Salt Lake County won't have a Christmas unless someone steps forward to "adopt" them.

The Deseret News Sub for Santa program has just been allocated 400 families who have qualified for assistance through the Salt Lake Community Christmas Council.Following a many-year-practice, the Deseret News appeals to its loyal readers to step forward and provide Christmas assistance. Individuals, families, groups of families, youth groups, clubs and businesses are invited to make their Sub for Santa selections early "before the Christmas rush,"says Dale Tiffany, program coordinator for the Deseret News.

These qualified families range in size from one child to 14. Additional information can be obtained from Tiffany at 236-6060.
