Christmas is a time to remember, and the Deseret News would like remembrances put into original Christmas stories, with winning submissions published the week prior to Dec. 25.
Following a long-standing practice, the newspaper will publish several Christmas stories in its annual "Christmas I Remember Best" writing contest. The stories should be original and approximately 800 words in length (about two typewritten pages, double-spaced.) They can cover the entire range of emotions associated with Christmas, including humor.
Ideally, the stories should be written using a computer and printed out on a laser printer, although handwritten entries are accepted as well. The author's name, address and daytime and evening phone numbers must be included.
For each story that is chosen for publication, the Deseret News will provide an honorarium of $50 to the author.
The deadline for submission is Monday, Nov. 30. Address or deliver entries to "Christmas Best," c/o Deseret News, 30 E. 100 South, Suite 400, P.O. Box Box 1257, Salt Lake City, UT 84110. Fax entries to 237-2528. E-mails accepted at (johnson@desnews.com). For information, call 236-6062.
