The boil-water advisory for an east-side area of Salt Lake City was lifted Tuesday afternoon.

General coliform had been found in the water in the area bounded by the mouth of Emigration Canyon, 1300 East, 500 South and 1300 South. The city initiated the advisory Monday as a precautionary measure until the specific organism could be identified. It turns out the organisms present did not pose a health risk, and even those were eliminated by flushing the system. No E. coli, a harmful bacterium caused by fecal matter, was present.

Even so, customers within the affected area are advised to open their taps and run the water for about five minutes to get fresh water into their systems. Those using filtration devices should replace or clean any filters used in the last two days.
