Junior power forward Silester Rivers, a 6-foot-7 transfer from Utah Valley State College, hyperextended his knee in a scrimmage Saturday. He underwent arthroscopic surgery Monday and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. BYU opens the preseason Nov. 13 at home against Wofford.

Another potential starter, point guard Brian Hamilton, may also miss some action. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI on his lower back Tuesday and has yet to practice with the Cougars.BYU holds its annual varsity preview Thursday and an exhibition game against the California All-Stars Saturday.
