CEDAR CITY — Cedar City police on Tuesday identified a rail yard worker injured last week as Robert Craw, who is the mayor of Minersville, a town 18 miles west of Beaver, in Beaver County.

Craw, 52, works for Union Pacific. He fell off the boxcar he was working from while attempting to connect the car to the engine, said Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack.

The spring-loaded locking mechanism on the connectors for the cars malfunctioned, and the connectors knocked together, causing Craw to fall under the moving boxcar. The car rolled over both his legs, causing serious injuries, Womack said.

"He called in on the radio connecting him to the engineer and other employees," Womack said. "They were there within seconds."

Craw was airlifted to LDS Hospital, where he remained Tuesday. Craw has requested that the hospital not release any information on his condition.
