A search warrant expected to outline more details in the investigation against Dr. Warren Stack has been sealed by the Utah Attorney General's Office.
Stack, 60, was arrested May 16 and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of nearly a dozen counts of controlled substance-related charges, including illegal distribution. Investigators contend Stack distributed more than 3.5 million narcotic pain pills since 2001, many of them illegally.
Detectives are also looking into whether any overdose deaths from prescription drugs can be traced to Stack.
When Stack was arrested, the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office along with investigators from the Utah Attorney General, Drug Enforcement Administration and Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, served a search warrant at his Murray office near 5000 South and 900 East. That warrant was expected to be released to the public Monday until the attorney general's office filed a motion to have it sealed.
Stack, who as of Monday had not been officially charged, remains free on bail.
On May 25, Stack's license to practice medicine and prescribe medication was suspended by the Utah Physicians Licensing Board. On the same day, Salt Lake District Attorney Lohra Miller issued a plea for former patients to get help now that their alleged supplier has been cut off.
Miller has not indicated when charges might be filed, only saying during her last news conference that, "a number of agencies are looking at a number of charges."
