MURRAY A Murray elementary student was surprised with $1,000 and an MP3 player for winning the state Igniting Creative Energy Challenge.
McMillan Elementary sixth-grader Maria Zolotsev created a conservation flap-book illustrating that everyone can help the environment by taking steps within their own homes.
Zolotsev received the surprise honors from contest officials, accompanied by school and district officials and Mayor Dan Snarr.
