Legislators should clarify voucher intent

It was reported that the legislative leaders and the governor made a deal that they would wait for the November vote on the issue to make the final decision on school vouchers. But, not unlike what kids used to do when they made promises on the playground, they'd say they had their fingers crossed behind their backs. Now the leadership is saying it was a matter of interpretation. Seems we once had a president who made his own interpretation of what is is.

The Legislature should not take the voters' belief and trust in the rule of law as a lack of intelligence. All voters want are

leaders who have the courage to carry out what is in the interest of the public, rather than avoiding tough decisions with transparent excuses. Leadership is not about seat time, rather it is about making tough decisions.

Voters want — and should expect — to have a government that is consistent, fair, open, honest and works for the public good. No more sandlot games.
