"I'll tell you one more thing that would make your intelligent readers grateful for Thanksgiving: The Deseret News dropping an uninspiring LaVarr Webb from your column."
"I have a question for each of you about today's column. Lavarr, how did you talk Frank into taking the low road while you took the high road? Frank, why?"
"(Frank) sounds like the conservative and Lavarr sounds like the tax and spend liberal."
Oldies, but goodies:
"Both of you make me ill and I hope the Deseret News doesn't share the same biased and irrational thinking as you do."
"If they gave an award for absurdity, you sir, would be a perennial winner."
Some readers seem to know us well:
"Frank for 10 years as a House Minority Leader you spend your time as a public servant creating games for personal gain."
One reader offered an alternative use for the paper edition of the column:
"You are an idiot, but I should not have to draw a map to where you should place your column."
The winner is (from a Mitt Romney supporter to Frank):
As can be expected, we hold similar and divergent views of such disapproval. LaVarr assumes the more statesmanlike posture and understands the criticism because it comes with the territory. (LaVarr believes we make mistakes and sometimes even our brilliant analyses are way off the mark.) Frank, on the other hand, is a sick and demented person who relishes hate mail and saves them for months of enjoyment.
Either way, we appreciate the interest.
Republican LaVarr Webb was policy deputy to Gov. Mike Leavitt and Deseret News managing editor. He now is a political consultant and lobbyist. E-mail: lwebb@exoro.com. Democrat Frank Pignanelli is a Salt Lake attorney, lobbyist and political adviser. A former candidate for Salt Lake mayor, he served 10 years in the Utah House of Representatives, six years as House minority leader. Pignanelli's spouse, D'Arcy Dixon Pignanelli, is a Utah state tax commissioner. E-mail: frankp@xmission.com
