THE REVIEW

GAMEPLAY: The main complaint of the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie is that it's too long and moves a bit slowly at times.

Well, the Nintendo DS game based on the flick doesn't take long to get a handle on and, regardless of some technical fighting requirements, the game moves smoothly and keeps the player's interest. Throughout the game, players play the characters of Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann or Captain Jack to pick locks, open sealed doors, gather gold, evade deadly traps and fight pirates and other villainous sorts, all leading up to the big confrontation with Captain Barbossa. The downside is working through half the game to finally unlock Captain Jack. The player sees him from the start of the game, which shows animated takes of the previous "Pirates" film "Dead Man's Chest," but the player can't play Jack until the middle of the game.

Still, the game can be played by up to four players using the Nintendo single-card download play.

GRAPHICS: Seeing the stubble on Will Turner's face or the coiled strands of the grappling rope adds to the game experience. Animated screen shots of the characters as well as the movements of the fight and roving scenes are smooth and contain limited jerks.

AUDIO: The sound-alikes do a pretty good job voicing the different characters. But the most rewarding audio snippets are the clicks and whirs of the lock picking and the clang of the fight scenes.
