How public-safety bond proposal would boost taxes

The Salt Lake police and fire departments are asking the City Council to put a $191 million, 20-year bond issue before voters in the Nov. 6 election. The bond would increase annual property taxes by:

• $114.50 on a $200,000 home

• $171.75 on a $300,000 home

• $229 on a $400,000 home

• $286.25 on a $500,000 home

It would fund:

• A 5-acre public-safety complex, including a new 126,000-square-foot public-safety building and a 25,000-acre emergency operations center

• A 41,000-square-foot east-side police precinct building

• A 45,000-square-foot combination fire station/training center on the city's southwest side
