Jazz fans, don't get too confident — yet

Turning to golf, I have to admit that when I heard that the local Finau brothers were turning professional at the tender ages of 17 and 16, the first thing I thought of was Ty Tryon. He's the kid who earned his PGA card at 17 a few years back and dropped out of high school and tried to make it on the PGA Tour. He didn't last long and has since bounced around, playing tours in Asia, Europe, Australia and Canada with little success. Both Tony and Gipper are exceptional talents and I wouldn't be surprised if one or both made it big in golf. However I still wonder if they would have been better off honing their skills in college golf before making a go as professionals ...

Did anyone watch the Indy 500 yesterday? I'll admit I haven't paid any attention to it since the days of Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt. About the only bit of intrigue was the fact that three women were competing. I'm not a big NASCAR guy, but at least I can name a half dozen or so of their drivers. The only Indy-style driver I can name is Danica Patrick ...

And finally, how about those Red Sox? As a longtime fan, I'm thrilled the Sox are 11 games up in the A.L. East and the dreaded Yankees are struggling mightily. However, I'm not celebrating much since I'm old enough to remember when the Yankees overcame a 14-game deficit in 1978 to steal the pennant from the Red Sox.
