Try out for 'Idol,' dance contests

Registration is under way for auditions for two contests in Clearfield: "Strut Your Stuff" dance contest and the second annual "Clearfield Idol" singing contest.

Finalists for the two contests will perform at the Clearfield City 4th of July celebration festival at Fisher Park on Wednesday, July 4.

Auditions for the Strut Your Stuff Dance Contest will be Saturday, June 9, at the Clearfield Aquatic Center, and the Clearfield Idol auditions will be Saturday, June 16, at the Clearfield Community Center Little Theatre.

This dance contest is open to individuals and groups of up to six dancers.

Strut Your Stuff contest organizer Angie Collinwood said, "All dance styles will be accepted, as long as it is in good taste. Dancers will be judged on the overall quality of their performance."

Dance auditions will take place Saturday, June 9, at the Clearfield Aquatic Center Aerobics Studio beginning at 11:30 a.m. Age categories will be 6-12 years, 13 -19, and 20-plus. Individuals and groups in each category will audition at the following times: 6-12 years from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 13-19 years, 2 -4 p.m., 20-plus, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The performance at the dance audition can last up to two-minutes, and dancers must provide their own pre-recorded music. Costumes, as well as music, should be in good taste, that is, no revealing clothing or vulgar lyrics.

Finalists will participate in the 4th of July parade and perform at the Clearfield 4th of July celebration on the entertainment stage at Fisher Park. Prizes will be awarded to all first-place winners and runners-up.

To register as an individual or group, call 801-525-2790 by June 8 or register a half-hour before your age category audition time at the Clearfield Aquatic Center, 825 S. State.

"We had such a fun time last year with the Clearfield Idol contest that we decided to offer it again this year," said Clearfield city event organizer Marliss Scott.

This singing competition is open to ages 6 years and up. Preliminary auditions and elimination rounds will take place Saturday, June 16, at the Clearfield Community Center Little Theatre, 140 E. Center. Age categories are as follows: ages 6-12, 13-19 and 20-plus. Auditions for the 6-12 age group will be from 10 a.m.-noon, 13-19-year-olds from 12:30-2:30 p.m., and the 20 and over group from 3-5 p.m.

Callbacks for all age categories will be at 6 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to first place and runners-up in each age group. Finalists will perform at the 4th of July celebration and on the Clearfield Idol parade float.

You may also register audition day, June 16, a half-hour before your age group auditions begin. Preliminary auditions and eliminations will be a cappella. Finalists must provide their own pre-recorded music (CD or cassette tape) for the 4th of July performance.
