  • The Book Arts Program at the J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah, will host book artist Julie Leonard in a workshop that expands the meaning of books and art. The intensive workshop runs June 13-16, during which participants will create a variety of book structures that reflect personal narratives. Leonard will also present a lecture, "Contemporary Context: The Layering Meaning in Artists' Books," Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m., in the D. Lamar Jensen Seminar Room at the Harold B.   • The Salt Lake City Arts Council will host Tay Haines of Chez Artists conducting "Professional Skills Artist Workshop" on Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Art Barn (1325 E. 100 South in Reservoir Park). For all details visit www.chezartists.com.

  • The Artists' Gala-In Support of Art Access will be Saturday, June 9, 7-9 p.m., at the Utah Symphony and Opera Production Studios, 336 N. 400 West. The event will give artists the opportunity to network with galleries, art organizations, art suppliers, the public and others. During the event, art will be on display and for sale.   • Saltgrass Printmakers, 2126 S. 1000 East, Salt Lake City, will host a basic etching class taught by Stefanie Dykes. The class will run on June 2, 6, 9,13 and 16. A $150 fee includes copper plates, paper, ink, etc. Class size is limited to seven printers. For more information call 467-1080.

  • The Utah Museum of Fine Arts, 410 Campus Center Drive, will host artist Brian Kershisnik working and interacting with patrons in the museum's Great Hall, Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The event will be in conjunction with the artist's current exhibit in the Great Hall.   • The American Detoxification Foundation and the Utah Arts Alliance announce a call for entries for an exhibition and sale of original art, "Help a Hero," to be presented at Liberty Park on Sunday, June 10, 2-6 p.m. The art benefit will raise money for police officers and firefighters undergoing treatment for sustained toxic exposure at "ground zero."   • The Eccles Community Art Center announces a call for entries for it 33rd Annual Statewide Competition to be help July 6-Aug. 30. Deadline for entering art is Friday, June 22, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday, June 23, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information call 392-6935.

  • The Huntsman Cancer Institute will sponsor a traveling exhibit of 50 pieces of art by cancer survivors, their families, friends, health-care providers and caregivers.
