PROVO Provo School District recently selected Salt Lake structural engineering firm Dunn Associates to conduct seismic evaluations of 11 schools in the next year.
A committee of Board of Education members, district staff and professional engineers chose the firm. The study will cost $175,000.
The seismic evaluations will aid the district with building improvement plans.
Last year, Provo voters authorized the district to issue $35 million in bonds, which included money for school seismic evaluations.
The oldest buildings were constructed in the 1930s, before building codes had provisions for seismic safety.
