SACRAMENTO, Calif. The Salt Lake Bees came up short in an attempt at their first-ever sweep of a series in Sacramento as the River Cats won 3-1 Thursday afternoon. Kevin Melillo broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run off Salt Lake starter Henry Bonilla. Down 3-1 in the ninth, Adam Pavkovich doubled and moved to third on a single by Terry Evans, but Sacramento reliever Santiago Casilla recorded his second save by fanning the next three batters.
Bonilla (4-3) took the loss, although he pitched well, allowing just three runs, two earned, on five hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Nathan Haynes, Matt Brown, Pavkovich and Evans each had two hits for the Bees, who close out their road trip with a 4-4 record.
