CENTERVILLE Police are investigating a road-rage incident between a man in a car and a bicyclist that ended in a crash.
Police said the trouble began Sunday morning near Parrish Lane and 400 West when the driver of a Ford Taurus came up behind the bicyclist on the road.
"The driver ... honked his horn at the man on the bicycle," Centerville Police Lt. Paul Child said Wednesday.
Police said the bicyclist responded by swearing and spitting on the car. At the intersection, the two began yelling at each other. When the traffic light turned green, officers said the bicyclist started riding off and the Taurus hit him from behind.
The bicyclist suffered scrapes and bruises, and his $7,000 bike was destroyed. Police said Fred S. Hughes, 53, was booked into the Davis County Jail on investigation of aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
