BYU received its third recruit commitment in five days on Wednesday when a Texas sprinter from the Dallas area pledged to sign a letter of intent with the Cougars.

Atem Bol, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas, told the Deseret Morning News he will play football for the Cougars and sign as part of the Class of 2008 after his senior year for the Blue Raiders.

Bol, who is a native of Sudan, has been in the United States since 1998 and said his desire to serve an LDS mission someday played a key part in his decision to sign with the Cougars.

"I want to go on a mission, and I like the tradition of football BYU has had over the years and it's a perfect fit for me," said Bol, who joins teammate Grant Milton as one of District 7 5A's top receiver tandems this fall.

Since May 19, Snow JC defensive lineman Tolu Moala and Texas offensive lineman Michael Yeck announced their pledges to the Cougars.

Bol said in addition to BYU, he expects an offer from Baylor and has had recruiting attention this spring from SMU, Kansas and Missouri. "My coaches have told me I could expect some offers in coming weeks, but I decided to commit to BYU right now."

Bol ran the 100 and 300 hurdles in addition to the 4x400 relay for L.D. Bell this past year and played on the varsity basketball team this past season. "I went to regionals in the 300 hurdles this spring."

With the Bol commit, BYU now has nine commitments for the recruiting Class of 2008 including Utah prepsters: tight end Austin Holt and kicker Justin Sorensen from Bingham and Springville DB Cameron Comer.
