SAN ANTONIO His young daughter just recently underwent surgery to fight a rare, potentially life-threatening childhood eye cancer.
He was drained in the past week, too, by an allergy attack.
Yet Derek Fisher offered no excuses for his 1-of-9 shooting in Tuesday's Game 2 of the NBA Western Conference finals, a 105-96 San Antonio win over Utah, or for his 2-for-16 shooting so far in the best-of-seven series, which the Spurs lead 2-0.
"I think it's just kind of part of the business," the Jazz's starting shooting guard said.
"I mean, things go well for you at times and sometimes you can't explain that," Fisher added. "And things just kind of turn around and they're not going so well for you, and it's no excuses ... It just kind of happens."
Fisher remained confident Tuesday that his shot will come around.
So did center Mehmet Okur, who is 7-of-28 in the series but said the key to overcoming his slump is to "keep shooting keep shooting every day."
"Guys who have been around the league long enough or that are confident enough in themselves," said Fisher, who won three NBA title rings during his days with the Los Angeles, "are able to kind of work their way back."
Perhaps a Jazz victory in the series would helps matters, too.
"Guys on winning teams a lot of times don't shoot the ball very well, but because their team wins it's just not that big of a focus," Fisher said. "On the losing team, individually you feel bad.
"If I'm 1-for-9 and we win," he added, "I really don't mind that."
MIND GAMES: Utah guard Gordan Giricek thinks the Spurs may be simply toying with the Jazz.
"It seems like they play as much as they need, third quarter, fourth quarter," he said. "They just keep that 10-point lead.
"Up by 20, then second half just play as they need to keep the lead," he added, "because they're an excellent team that knows how to do that. It seems that way to me."
OLYMPIC HOPES: USA Basketball will finally get around today to formally announcing its roster additions for a July training camp in advance of this summer's FIBA Americas championship tournament, and when it does Jazz teammates Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams as expected for some time now will be among those tapped.
