Eddie Raymond Bustos, an Ogden resident charged with killing two people while attempting to evade police, was sentenced to prison on two counts of automobile homicide and one count of failing to respond to the command of a police officer.
Bustos was charged three second-degree felonies in connection with the deaths of Philmon Ellis, 62, and Jessica Nelson, 21, who were killed when his car struck the side of their vehicle at the intersection of 24th Street and Grant Avenue.
Prior to the Dec. 13, 2005, crash, police were pursuing Bustos but had called off the chase about a block before Bustos ran a red light. Ellis and Nelson were pronounced dead at the scene.
Bustos, 49, was sentenced May 9 by 2nd District Judge Pamela Heffernan to serve one to fifteen years in the Utah State Prison on each count concurrently. The court also recommended Bustos pay $14,000 restitution as a condition for parole.
