Title: "Einstein: A Biography"
Author: Jurgen Neffe (Translated by Shelley Frisch)
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux
Pages: 461
Title: "Einstein: His Life and Universe"
Author: Walter Isaacson
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Pages: 675
In a nutshell: These are two exhaustive biographies of Albert Einstein, thought to be the greatest mind of the 20th century. Neffe is a German biochemist and journalist (it was translated by an American). His book is fresh, thematic, extremely well-written in idiomatic English, and scientifically first-rate. Isaacson is an American journalist and executive, and his is traditional and strictly chronological. It's also harder to understand scientifically, textbookish in style and at times downright dull.
