Kid Nation (Wednesdays, 7 p.m.) is a reality show in which 40 kids ages 8-15 have 40 days to "build a new world" in a ghost town in New Mexico. They'll have to cook, clean, run their own businesses and create their own government. There will be no eliminations — although the youngsters can leave if they want to. From the producer of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

Moonlight (Fridays, 8 p.m.) is a drama about an "undead" private investigator (Alex O'Loughlin) who uses his vampire senses to help humans instead of feed on them. Of course, he also has to deal with the "bad" vampires — including the wife (Amber Valletta) who turned him into one of the undead — and a human reporter he's in love with. Movie producer Joel Silver ("The Matrix" trilogy, "V for Vendetta") is one of the executive producers.

SUMMER SERIES: Drew Carey will host Power of 10, a game show from the producer of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" in which contestants have to guess how Americans responded to a series of poll questions. At stake — $10 million.

MIDSEASON SHOWS: A pair of returning series that didn't make the fall schedule will return at some point as midseason replacement. CBS has ordered one round of "The Amazing Race" for this season, and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" has been cut back from a full-season order of 22 episodes to 13.

The network's new midseason series is Swingtown, a period piece set in the 1970s about couples "reveling in the sexual and social revolution that introduced open marriages, women's liberation and challenged many conventional wisdoms." The cast includes Molly Parker, Bruce Miller, Grant Show, Lana Parrilla, Miriam Shor and Josh Hopkins.

CANCELED SHOWS include "Armed & Famous," "The Class," "Close to Home," "Jericho," "Smith" and "3 lbs."

"The King of Queens" retired after nine seasons.
