Insider advice: Sign up online for the free Fun Time Club, which will send you e-mail alerts about special offers on anything from admission to food. If you're a frequent flyer, so to speak, a season pass, which will cost $74.95 plus tax if you buy four or more before June 5, saves you a wad of money, said marketing manager Trent Brown.

Hogle Zoo

What's new: "Ghost of the Bayou," featuring a rare, white alligator visiting from the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, will be at Hogle Zoo through October 2007.

Most popular attraction: Asian Highlands exhibit, which features five species of cats native to that area, including an Amur tiger, an Amur leopard, a snow leopard, Siberian lynx and Pallas Cats.

Best time to go: Early in the day. (The zoo opens at 9 a.m.) Crowds grow as the day progresses.

Insider advice: Daily events, from special training sessions to an elephant program, that are included in admission are listed on a brochure you can pick up at the gate.

LDS Family History Library

What's new: Wireless Internet connections and free consultation services to help visitors get beyond roadblocks in their family history research. Also, free specialized research training on most Saturdays. (Examples: Ireland one week; Canada another. A schedule is available on the Web.)

Most popular feature: The library has the world's largest collection of genealogical information. "In a society where we're so mobile, people are trying to find their family connections," said Karen Jepson, community relations manager of the Family and Church History Department of the LDS Church. The library gets anywhere from 700,000 to 800,000 visitors a year, 54 percent of which are from out of state.

Best time to go: Mornings are less crowded than afternoons and evenings.

Insider advice: It's helpful if you come with as much information as you can, said Jepson. To help you get started, bring birth or death information about your ancestors and where they lived.
