BYU

SOFTBALL: BYU senior Jodi Norton was named MWC player of the year Monday and was joined by four teammates on the all-conference team. Senior Jennifer Whiteley, junior Emi Snow and freshmen Angeline Quiocho and Christie Zinanti all made the 20-member all-conference team along with Norton. The honor is the second for both Norton and Whiteley and the first for Snow, Quiocho and Zinanti.

Norton, a Mesa, Ariz., native, is the fifth consecutive Cougar to be named player of the year. She led the league in four offensive categories to help her team to its third 40-win season. She tallied a league-leading 23 home runs, a slugging percentage of .772, 56 RBIs and 132 total bases.

Utah Valley

TRACK & FIELD: The Wolverines finished their 2007 outdoor season with a fourth-place finish (men's and women's) at the Division I Independent championships. The UV men finished with 75 team points, and the women with 93.5 team points. Freshman Zach Cook won the long jump with a meet-record leap of 24-01.75. Kirsten Barney finished her stellar season strong, placing first in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:56.46.

Utah

SOFTBALL: Diana Phillips and Meghan Crouse were named to the MWC all-conference team Monday. Phillips, a junior, was named all-conference for the third time in her career. This is the first honor for Crouse, also a junior.

BASEBALL: University of Utah senior baseball player Jay Brossman has been named Academic All-District VIII. Brossman received this honor after voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which administers the Academic All-America program.

Brossman, a Pullman, Wash., product, is majoring in exercise and sports science at Utah. He currently holds a 3.38 grade-point average. On the field, Brossman is tied for first in the Mountain West Conference with 10 home runs. He leads the conference in slugging percentage (.647), ranks fourth in RBIs (47) and is fifth in batting average (.356). Brossman is currently in the midst of a 20-game hitting streak.

Utah State

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Aggies announced today that three players have signed for the 2007-08 season. Guard Alice Coddington of Canberra, Australia, center Mame' Diop of Dakar, Senegal, and power forward Shawnta Pope of Cairo, Ga., have all signed as part of the signing class for next year.
