Frank Overfelt (Readers' Forum, May 13) is right, on a technicality. Prior to 1978, black people were always welcomed as second-class members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were denied the arguably vital blessings that would come with having the priesthood in their homes. How special they must have felt!
The revelation that God loves people of color the same as whites took place in my lifetime not my grandmother's lifetime or my mother's. That is very sobering to me. Personally, I don't think Overfelt's point changes much at all. I believe that if there is a God, he (or she) is not a racist.
