WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Danielle Evans has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for head coach JD Gustin next season. Evans is a 5-8 guard from Morgan High School who averaged 17 points, six assists and four rebounds a game last year as a first-team all-state player.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Head coach Tony LeBlanc has announced that three student-athletes from Utah high schools will join the team for its inaugural season of intercollegiate play: Carly Empey (Highland HS), Maggie Nielsen (Grand County HS) and Rachel Watson (Riverton HS).

ACADEMICS: The Western Athletic Conference announced its winter all-academic teams on Thursday, and Utah State had 13 student-athletes recognized. Among those honored were nine gymnasts and four women's basketball players. Student-athletes who are earning academic all-conference honors for the fourth time include gymnasts Ashley Barr, Meagan Lewis, Rachael Mandy and Jessica Parenti-Otte, and women's basketball player Brittany Phillips.

ACADEMICS: Senior Jesse Craig of the BYU baseball team has been selected as one of three pitchers to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 Team, while senior Jennifer Whiteley of the Cougar softball team has been named to the 2007 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The second round of the 2007 NCAA Women's Championships will feature No. 28 BYU against No. 1 Stanford after both teams won first round matches Friday. The Cougars blanked the Oregon Ducks, 4-0, and the Cardinal knocked off Sacramento State to reach the second round. Stanford, the three-time defending NCAA Tournament Champion, is hosting the first two rounds and has a 19-match tournament winning streak.
GOLF: Playing with just four golfers, the 14th-ranked Cougars fell back to sixth place at the NCAA West Regional at Entrada at Snow Canyon on Friday. The Cougars entered the day tied for second place, but a car accident left BYU without the services of Natalia Jimenez. "I was very proud of the way out team played together today under some difficult conditions," said BYU head coach Sue Nyhus. Senior Rachel Newren had a big round for the Cougars. The Mountain West Conference Player of the Year is tied for fifth place after Friday's second round.

SOFTBALL: Mid-Con player of the year Marci Pratt and Lindi Kennedy hit back-to-back shots in the third inning as the Thunderbirds won their first game of the Mid-Continent Conference tournament 9-0 over Oakland on Friday in Shreveport, La.
