BYU

WOMEN'S TENNIS: With a 21-6 record, an MWC regular-season title and the 2007 MWC championship title, 28th-ranked BYU is making its 18th and fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Cougars will play the University of Oregon today in Palo Alto, Calif., on the Stanford campus.

Utah State

SOFTBALL: Utah State senior Jamie Fife was named to the Western Athletic Conference all-conference first-team, announced Wednesday prior to the start of the conference tournament. Fife led USU and ranks 14th in the WAC with a .339 average and leads USU with 27 RBIs.

FOOTBALL: Former Utah State football players Malik Cin and Ryan Taylor have been named to the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's inaugural Honor Society, which is comprised of college players from all divisions (NCAA and NAIA) who maintain a 3.2 grade-point average.

Weber State

ACADEMICS: Weber State placed 35 student-athletes on the 2007 Big Sky Conference winter all-Academic list, released Thursday by the conference. The 35 student-athletes is the third most in the Big Sky for the winter sports.

Utah Valley

BASEBALL: Utah Valley freshman Craig Brimhall was named the Division I Independent newcomer of the week on Tuesday after appearing in all four games last week for the Wolverines and finishing with a 0.00 ERA and two saves. Brimhall, who prepped at Provo High, threw 6 2/3 innings, including the ninth, in a doubleheader sweep at Northern Colorado, earning him two saves in one day.

SOFTBALL: Heidi Boyer has been named to the ESPN the Magazine District 8 All-Academic First Team. Boyer is the first Utah Valley athlete to be named to the first team, an honor that now puts Boyer on a national ballot where she could earn academic all-American honors.

Southern Utah

SOFTBALL: First baseman Bobbi Joe Merrill has been named to this year's CoSIDA University Division Academic All-District 8 squad. Merrill, a senior from Show Low, Ariz., carries a 3.58 GPA in criminal justice. She was named to the all-district second team.
