On a night when the Jazz came back in improbable fashion to beat the Warriors, the Bees could not complete their comeback against the Memphis Redbirds, losing 9-8 in a wacky 11-inning game.

Pedro Liriano pitched his best game of the season for the Bees, going five innings and giving up one run. The Bees bullpen however, did not give their best performance giving up eight runs (five earned) in six innings. Both teams' defenses were not at their best, each had three errors.

It was a wild back-and-forth game that had a combined 37 hits, 17 runs and 6 errors. Redbirds' left fielder John Rodriguez broke a 7-7 tie in the 11th with an RBI single. First basemen Tagg Bozied doubled home an insurance run right after. The Bees tried to rally with one run in the bottom of the 11th but couldn't get another.

Nick Gorneault opened the scoring in the first knocking in Brandon Wood with an RBI single. The Redbirds stuck right back however, with Travis Hanson singling in a run on a chopper to second, in the top of the second to notch the score at one.

The Bees took the lead back in the third when Terry Evans beat out a throw to first for an infield single RBI.

The lead wouldn't last though.

Steven Shell came in for Liriano in the top of the sixth and he, well, got shelled. The Redbirds teed off for four runs (three earned) in the inning and if it wasn't for center fielder Terry Evans throw to home to get the final out, it would have been five.

The Bees would not fold though, scoring three runs in the seventh to tie it up. Terry Evans singled in a run and Brandon Wood, his first game back since a short stint in the majors, hammered a 2-run homer.

GAME NOTES: It was Bees infielder Brandon Wood's first game back since a short stint in the majors ... Redbirds manager Chris Maloney got his 1000 win ... Bees DH Ryan Budde left in the seventh with an injury.
