HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Maj. Gen. Kevin J. Sullivan, commander of Hill Air Force Base's Ogden Air Logistics Center, has been nominated by President George Bush for a promotion to the Pentagon.

If confirmed by the Senate, Sullivan will receive a third star and the rank of lieutenant general. He will succeed retiring Lt. Gen. Donald J. Wetekam as deputy chief of staff for Installations, Logistics, and Mission Support.

His new duties will include logistics elements associated with aircraft and missile supply and maintenance activities. Sullivan will also be in charge of setting policy and preparing budget estimates to enhance productivity, combat readiness and quality of life for Air Force personnel, according to a news release.

Sullivan was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps after graduating from the University of Connecticut in 1974.

He has held various assignments throughout the major commands of the Air Force. Prior to his assignment at Hill, which he has held since July 2003, Sullivan was the director of logistics readiness under the office he is about to lead.

Neither his replacement at Hill nor his reporting date to the Pentagon have been decided.

"It is an honor for me to receive this nomination and, when confirmed, I look forward to continuing to serve my country and the Air Force in this new capacity," Sullivan said in a news release Wednesday.

Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, also praised the nomination.

"Hill will lose a powerful leader, but the United States Air Force will continue to benefit from his capable service," Bennett said. "I look forward to working with him in his new capacity."

The mission of the Air Logistics Center includes depot maintenance, purchasing and supply-chain management, and weapons-system management and readiness.
