TACOMA, Wash. Kasey Olenberger worked 8 1/3 strong innings to lead the Salt Lake Bees to a 4-2 win over the Tacoma Rainiers on Monday night.
Olenberger (4-1) was bidding for the Bees' first shutout of the season when he gave up a one-out double to Bryan LaHair in the ninth inning and Mike Morse followed that with a two-run homer that cut the Salt Lake lead in half.
Matt Wilhite allowed a two-out single and walk before getting former Timpanogos High star Jon Nelson to ground into a game-ending forceout.
Olenberger allowed seven hits and two runs in what is the longest outing for a Salt Lake starting pitcher this season. He struck out three and walked just one.
Casey Smith led the 12- hit attack with two hits, including his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the sixth inning. Nathan Haynes added two hits and an RBI and Ryan Budde chipped in two hits and scored one run. Salt Lake closes out their road trip with a 4-3 record.
BEE NOTES: The Pacific Coast League announced that Salt Lake Bees starter Jonathon Rouwenhorst has been named the PCL Pitcher of the Week. The lefty earned wins in both of his appearances and posted an ERA of 0.90, allowing just one run and striking out nine batters in 10 innings of work to help the Bees earn victories over division rivals, Portland and Tacoma.
