OREM — An Orem High School senior who has traveled around the world to participate in service projects is this year's Utah Young Humanitarian.

Chelsea Gould has gone to Guadalajara, Mexico, to assist Operation Smile and also served a humanitarian mission to Nairobi, Kenya.

Gould also works with disabled children through a charity organization.

Gould received a $5,000 college scholarship. Four runners-up received $1,000 scholarships. They were recognized at an event April 28.

The four runners-up are Nathan Jarrett, a Lone Peak High School senior, for his work with Operation Smile; Peter Reichman, a Brigham Young University student who started a nonprofit group called Vaccines for the Philippines; Shonti Breisch, a Westminster College student who works with children at the Sharing Place, helping them cope with the death of a loved one; and Kimberly Gallegos, a University of Utah student who helped establish the House of Hope in Salt Lake City where children get support while their mothers receive addiction treatment.
