Let's open up the e-mailbag

Just a few more 'coincidences' and reader feedback

Last week I told you about the noncoincidence involving characters with the same name on "Jack & Bobby" and "Brothers & Sisters."

On the former show, Bobby McCallister eventually grew up to be president; on the latter, Robert McCallister is currently running for president.

Turns out there's more to it than that, as pointed out by an e-mailer who has been paying closer attention than I have.

"Both of them married a woman named Courtney," wrote Jesse Morgan. "If you'll recall, Bobby married the Courtney that his older brother, Jack, had dated."

Why, that's absolutely correct!

"Also, both of them have a first son named Jack," Morgan continued.

Yikes. Also absolutely correct!

Again, all of this is not a coincidence. Greg Berlanti was the creator/executive producer of "Jack & Bobby"; he's the show-running executive producer of "Brothers & Sisters."

Heck, he even brought Keri Lynn Pratt, who played Missy on "Jack & Bobby" to "Brothers & Sisters" as Amber for several episodes.

And perhaps we ought to keep an eye out for more "J&B" and "B&S" similarities.

"They say we'll meet a lot of Robert's family in the finale of 'Brothers & Sisters,"' Morgan wrote, "and I'm anxious to listen carefully for names I recognize ... Grace, Uncle Jimmy, Warren, Missy. ...

A BIG THANK YOU to Ron Davis, who was able to do what I could not — he found where you can buy a DVD of the first-and-only season of "Jack & Bobby."

IF YOU THINK people are not passionate about television shows, think again.

Here are just a couple of e-mails that came in the wake of Fox's quick cancellation of "Drive":

• "I cannot believe they finally get a show worth watching — and after only four episodes they pull it?" wrote an e-mailer who identified herself as Sealy. "What is wrong with these people? We don't watch a lot of television, but when we find something we enjoy watching, it seems it gets pulled off the air. It seems the reality shows have taken over elsewhere. It's sick."
