• Foster parents are reimbursed by the state based on the age of the child and whether the child has significant medical or behavioral problems. Parents are reimbursed $13.75 per day to care for children 0-11 years old; $14.75 for children 12-15 years old; $15.75 for children 16-19.

• Foster families who are able to take care of siblings and children over age 8 are particularly needed.

• There are 513,000 foster children in the United States.

• Foster parents can be married or single and can rent or own their housing, but they do need to be over 21.

• The Utah Foster Care Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works with the Division of Child and Family Services to find, educate and support foster families.

• Foster parents receive at least 32 hours of training before they receive a license to allow them to care for foster children.

• There are about 1,200 licensed foster parents in Utah.
