SPANISH FORK — The Nebo Philharmonic Orchestra will finish its season with a grand finale concert Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, in a celebration of Spanish music.

The newly formed ensemble, led by Benjamin Winkler, will perform an array of dance music including tangos, jarabes, boleros, a fandango, Spanish marches and a waltz.

The evening concert on May 4 will start at 7:32 p.m. in the Spanish Fork Middle School, 50 N. 900 East in Spanish Fork. The May 5 matinee concert will start at 2:32 p.m. at Payson Junior High School, 851 W. 450 South in Payson.

Winkler said the musical selections are especially suitable for the Cinco de Mayo celebration.

"It seemed appropriate to present Latin American music and pay tribute to that heritage. We will be playing pieces from South America, Central America and Mexico to feature this heritage in the Americas," he said.

The orchestra will play music from Bizet's "Carmen," music that is distinctly Spanish even though it was written by a Frenchman. Another Spanish piece is "La Virgen de la Macarena," which will feature Roger Fjerstad, a member of the orchestra's trumpet section.

Tickets are available at the door for $5/$3 students and seniors and $15/families.

Adult musicians who wish to audition for the nonprofit community orchestra or volunteer as a board member should contact Carolyn Sorenson at 787-5376.
